STOCKSHOTS of Flamanville nuclear reactor as estimated costs rise by 1.5 bn euros to reach 12.5 bn Due to the onset of welding problems, costs of constructing the EPR nuclear reactor project in Flamanville, on France's northern coast, will increase by €1.5 billion to reach an estimated total of €12.5 billion. The plant, owned by EDF, has been beset by problems and delays since work initially began in 2007. Once commissioned, the plant will use a third generation pressurised water reactor designed to generate increased power output while requiring less fuel and producing less long-term radioactive waste.
