In the small ski resort of Schnepfenried, in the Vosges mountains, exceptionally mild temperatures have thinned the snow, leaving the mountain grass bare. At the entrance to the resort, children and a few adult beginners slide down the green slope, while a few hundred meters away, at the edge of the red slope, a dozen employees are busy rebuilding a track for the ski lift.
