Description
Paris Police Prefect Didier Lallement lays a wreath on behalf of President Emmanuel Macron at the memorial in honour of the victims of the Charonne metro tragedy, at the Père-Lachaise cemetery. On February 8, 1962, a demonstration for peace in Algeria resulted in nine deaths in the Charonne metro in Paris and became, shortly before the end of the Algerian War, a bloody symbol of state repression. This is the first time that a president has paid tribute to the victims. IMAGES
