The town of Novgorodske in the eastern Donetsk region campaigned for years to get its old name back: New York. But despite retrieving its old name, the Ukrainian town remains a difficult place to live. "There is nowhere to work, the wages are low and there are these bombings," says local resident Ella Pylypenko referring to a new escalation in a separatist conflict that has claimed more than 14,000 lives and pushed 1.5 million from their homes.
