Description
Vultures swoop over carp carcasses on the arid land that was once the bed of Lake Peñuelas. The reservoir used to be one of the main sources of water supply in the Valparaiso region of central Chile, but twelve years of minimal rainfall, culminating in the catastrophic winter of 2021, the driest in the last century, have left Peñuelas almost unrecognisable.
