Description
Iranians gather at the Azadi stadium in the capital Tehran to attend a performance of the song "Salam Farmandeh" ("Salute Commander"). The song which was released in March by the Maddah (ceremonial singer or eulogy reciter especially for Shia Muslims) Abouzar Rouhi, addresses the younger generation, and serves as a "salute" to the Mahdi, the 12th imam of Shiite Islam, who they believe disappeared centuries ago and will return one day to usher in a new era of peace and justice. The lyrics also include a vow to answer the call of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. IMAGES
