Description
Stockshots of Austria's largest lake, Lake Neusiedl, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The salt lake and its marshes, the largest of its kind in Europe and a UNESCO world heritage site, could soon run completely dry. According to the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), historical records indicate that large variations of the lake area have occurred naturally (0% to >150% of present) but contemporary touristic usage of the lake require a largely constant water level. This dependence increases the region's economic vulnerability. STOCKSHOTS of Lake Neusiedl
