Mike Kendon, a climate information scientist with the UK's meteorological authority the Met Office, comments on the body's findings that 2022 is set to be the UK's warmest on record. "It's the consistent warmth through the year that's resulted in the year being the warmest on record for the UK", he says. He also warns against only thinking of the record-breaking temperatures seen in July, when the mercury topped 40 degrees Celsius. "As our climate warms, we will expect more prolonged, more intense heat waves of that type. So of course, that is of concern," he says. SOUNDBITES
