Description
The Chilean Congress approves a bill to reduce the work week from 45 to 40 hours, which will be implemented over the next five years. The bill, which had already been passed by the Senate, was approved by the Chamber of Deputies by 127 votes, 14 against and 3 abstentions. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Chile and Ecuador are the only two countries in South America with a 40-hour working week, compared to 48-hour weeks in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
