Description
Swiss soldiers take part in a wide-ranging military drill called 'LUX 23', which lasts until 9 May. Based on the overarching narrative of an attack by armed separatist militias from a fictitious region of Europe, the participants will face various scenarios in a wide range of settings, from Geneva airport to the greenery of the Jura mountains. The exercise also aims to boost cooperation between Swiss soldiers and the police, emergency services, and also French soldiers. "It's not obviously a classic conflict" says Mauricio Pogga, the head of Geneva's government, "there is an increased reactivity, an understanding between the different actors." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
