Hans Ellegren, head of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences says American economist Claudia Goldin was "surprised and very, very glad", after being awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. The 77-year-old Harvard professor, who is the third woman to win the prestigious economics prize, was honoured "for having advanced our understanding of women's labour market outcomes," the jury said.
