Description
Pope Francis says he has met the relatives of some of those held hostage in Gaza, as well as Palestinians with relatives in prison in Israel. "I've heard how much both of them suffer" he says during a weekly audience in the Vatican. The Pope's comments come as Israel and Hamas reached a deal on Wednesday to free at least 50 hostages, while offering a four-day truce. 240 people were seized by Hamas fighters on October 7, when the group launched an attack on settlements in Israel, killing 1,200 people. In response, Israeli forces have been conducting an air and ground campaign in the Gaza Strip, which the territory's Hamas-run health ministry says has killed 14,100 people. SOUNDBITE
