The fate of Hong Kong loomed over this weekend's Taiwan election, with Beijing's clampdown on freedoms in the finance hub turning voters firmly against China's doctrine of "one country, two systems".
Hong Kong's current state -- quietened with much of civil society slashed and many democracy activists and lawmakers fled abroad -- has cemented Taiwanese opinions on China's doctrine governing the former British colony.
