Wandering among the ruins, Svitlana Zavaly searches desperately for anything that could be salvaged from the rubble of her home destroyed by a Russian bomb in northeast Ukraine. "An empty city, an empty city. Hope for something? ... There is no hope," says the 67-year-old resident of the village of Velkya Pysarivka, just five kilometres from the Russian border. For around ten days in mid-March, the village and others along the frontier, came under heavy fire in apparent retribution for incursions into Russia by pro-Kyiv Russian fighters.
