Description
In the English countryside near Oxford, volunteers are putting the finishing touches on 1,475 metal silhouettes representing the British servicemen who died on D-Day, June 6, 1944. They will soon be installed in Normandy to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Nazi-occupied France. The "Standing with Giants" project is the brainchild of building renovation specialist Dan Barton, who says he wanted to pay an "important" tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives during the largest seaborne invasion in history.
