Description
Lawyer and friends of Guinean civil society leader Oumar Sylla react to his arrest.
Oumar Sylla, also known as Fonike Mengue, is the national coordinator of pro-democracy movement National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), one of the last civil society groups speaking out against Guinea's ruling junta.
He was arrested alongside another FNDC leader Mamadou Billo Bah. The arrests are the latest in a long string of opposition detentions carried out since the military seized power in September 2021, led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, who has since been sworn in as president and promoted to general.
