Description
The scars of violence are still visible outside the hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham, northern England. Ten days after the riots, residents remain shellshocked. "It was terrifying," says Clive Wingate, who lives near the now-infamous Holiday Inn Express. "When they were lighting the bins to push into the building, where there were people inside, what were their intentions?" asks the 66-year-old pensioner. Caroline Roberts is critical of the violence but says about the rioters: "They've got a grievance but nobody wants to know about that because they’re classed as racist." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
