Description
"Once you're in the water, you're really confronted with the amount of garbage there really is," says Grégory, a volunteer with the 'City to Ocean' association. The organisation arranges kayak outings to clean up the Brussels Canal, raising awareness of water pollution in the process. On any given day, volunteers collect around 20kg of garbage in under an hour. The most common types of litter collected are beer cans, plastic bottles and crisp packets. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
