Environmental campaigners react in London after losing an unprecedented legal challenge against the UK government which it accuses of failing to meet obligations to protect citizens from the effects of climate change. A judge at the High Court in London ruled that the government's climate adaptation policy, drawn up by the previous Conservative government, is lawful. "We will be calling on the government to please look again at the climate adaptation plan, recognise that it is not doing enough to keep communities safe, and please take urgent steps," says Rosie Downes, head of campaigns at Friends of the Earth, which brought the case alongside two private claimants.
