Description
Dutch military salvagers have completed a two-week operation to retrieve a World War II Spitfire fighter plane that belonged to Belgian Allied pilot Henri Goldsmit. The aircraft was shot down 80 years ago by German flak near the western Dutch city of Dordrecht. During the operation, salvagers recovered the plane's engine and parts of its fuselage, which were later displayed to dozens of curious visitors. According to the salvagers, around 5,000 planes crashed on Dutch soil during World War II. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
