The OSCE, the world's largest regional security organisation, agreed on December 6 that Turkish diplomat Feridun Sinirlioglu would be its next leader, after a meeting marred by outrage over Russia's participation. The 57-nation Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has been paralysed since Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and has been without a secretary general since September. Many members are outraged that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is attending. The OSCE's Chair-in-Office Ian Borg hails the appointment as proof members could come together.
