"Once again, our town suffers an attack that grieves our community," says the mayor of Jamundi, a town in southwestern Colombia, where a motorcycle bomb blast killed one person and injured 14, according to police. "I saw it myself, and it was horrible," recalls eyewitness Luisana Cedeno. The blast happened at a strategic checkpoint where the driver, allegedly part of a rebel group, reportedly panicked when stopped by police and triggered the device, local authorities said.
The attack occurred in a rural area in the municipality of Jamundi, where the rebel group EMC (Estado Mayor Central) operates. The EMC is the largest faction to split from the now-defunct FARC guerrilla and frequently targets security forces in southwestern Colombia. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
