"Narcoculture is an attack on democracy", says French director Jacques Audiard, in an interview with AFP in Bogota, Colombia, amid the release of his film "Emilia Perez". Audiard's surreal genre-defying drama about a transgender Mexican drug lord is one of the favourites for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards. Starring popstar Selena Gomez and Spanish transgender actress Karla Sofia Gascon, the film, which won four Golden Globes and the runner-up prize in Cannes, is also expected to garner acting and directing nods.
