Description
People at a port in the conflict-hit Eastern DR Congo city of Goma express joy as passenger ferry services resumed on Lake Kivu. "We have decided to return home to Goma, we are very happy," says Jeanne, a resident of Goma who had fled to Bukavu, which lies at the opposite end of the lake. Fighting between Rwanda-backed M23 fighters and government forces has raged for months in the towns, villages and cities on the DR Congo side of the lake, which straddles the border with Rwanda, triggering disruption to the ferry services and later a ban, which had been in place since the end of January.
