Carlos Jordy, a Brazilian lawmaker for the Liberal Party, qualifies the charges filed against former president Jair Bolsonaro over an alleged coup bid following his 2022 election loss as "weak and full of speculation", adding that they are just a way to label him "as a coup plotter" and to "prevent him from participating in the 2026 elections."
"The accusation fails to really substantiate a charge that proves he had any participation in this alleged act, this alleged coup that has been claimed," he tells reporters in Brasilia after meeting with Bolsonaro.
Brazil's attorney general filed charges against the former president and 33 others, including former ministers and high-ranking military members over a plot seeking to prevent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office. SOUNDBITES
