This is probably the most poetic, unique heat wave story in our archive. Reed Galin and photojournalist Ron Johnson took the typical assignment a little further and turned it into a work of art. Folksy guitar music and Galin’s casual delivery likely soothed viewers tired of the 109-degree heat. They covered all the bases: hot dogs, overheated cars, fan sales, beach relief, construction workers, and folks frolicking in the Balboa Park Fountain.
