US troops will be able to deploy in areas of access and adjacent to the Panama Canal, according to an agreement signed between the two countries, a sensitive concession to President Donald Trump, who is determined to regain control of the strategic inter-oceanic waterway.
The Panamanian government rules out that they are military bases, a sensitive issue in the Central American country because it evokes the time when the United States had an enclave with troops, before handing over the canal to Panama on December 31, 1999. IMAGES
