Description
April 9 on The Story: Like the infamous "Shanghai Tunnels" beneath Portland's Old Town, the city's present is very much built upon its past. For years, a bus tour of the city has sought to highlight how racial discrimination in housing both literally and figuratively shaped the way Portland is built today. "Fasten Your Seat Belts ... It's Been a Bumpy Ride," presented by the Fair Housing Council of Oregon, takes guests on a trip through that history of discrimination, teaching about the Vanport flood, exclusionary zoning and redlining, the carving up of the historically Black Albina District and the legacy of Japanese internment. Reporter Tim Gordon takes us along on a journey through the past that lives on to this day.
