May 22, 2023 on The Story: On Friday, Clackamas County Sheriff Angela Brandenburg took the rare step of circulating a statement to the public, calling out county commissioners for taking control of her department's budget. According to the sheriff, she needed to take a $5 million cut because of the county's plans to build a new courthouse, but commissioners weren't willing to accept the budget she drew up to absorb those cuts. Instead, she says, they want to raid a voter-approved levy intended to fund deputies in rural areas. We dig into the issue tonight on The Story.
