Feb. 9, 2023 on The Story: In case the story is already beginning to fade from consciousness, here's a reminder that last week the U.S. was captivated by the saga of a big Chinese balloon that crossed high over the country. China's government said it was just a weather research balloon blown off-course. The U.S. government said it was a sophisticated piece of intelligence-gathering equipment. So we turned to someone who knows a thing or two about great big balloons: the Tillamook-based Near Space Corporation, an aerospace company. They gave us a walk-through of how these things work, and why flying them is usually pretty predictable.
