Description
A famous Oregon politician is being remembered on what would have been his 100th birthday. There’s an exhibit to honor Mark O. Hatfield at the Oregon Historical Society in downtown Portland.
Hatfield started as a state senator in 1950, and served as secretary of state and governor of Oregon before spending decades in Congress as a US senator from Oregon.
The centennial celebration also coincides with the release of Hatfield’s oral history, which was restricted from the public until his 100th birthday.
“It’s a fantastic time to be here and celebrate the political life, reputation and legacy he’s left behind,” said Visko Hatfield, the late senator’s son.
