The family of a man who died at the Huerfano County Detention Center claimed in a lawsuit that he was tossed into a metal bench and then left to die in his cell from the injuries he received as a result of the excessive force. The lawsuit was filed Wednesday by the family of 69-year-old Michael Burch, who died on April 4, 2023. They're suing the county board of commissioners, the county sheriff, the Huerfano County Hospital District, and Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center. It also names several paramedics and nurses, and detention center employees.
