The White House on Thursday thanked Elon Musk for his service and insisted his "efforts to cut waste, fraud, and abuse will continue."
The comments from White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt follow Musk's announcement that he is leaving the Trump administration after spearheading efforts to slash the federal government through his so-called Department of Government Efficiency.
Asked about Musk questioning whether a White House-backed proposal approved by the House would really reduce federal deficits, Leavitt insisted that the bill would ultimately save taxpayers money.
“The president is very proud of the one big beautiful bill and he wants to see it pass,” she said.
Asked who would replace Musk as the leader of DOGE, Leavitt said, "every member of the President's Cabinet and the President himself who is wholeheartedly committed to cutting waste, fraud, and abuse from our government."
