Description
An elderly woman is dead after being hit by a train in Richmond Sunday afternoon.
The Richmond Police Department said officers responded to the Norfolk and Southern Railway crossing just before 1 p.m. Sept. 29, near North 12th and E streets, for a report of a pedestrian struck by an eastbound Norfolk and Southern train.
When authorities arrived, they found the victim, later identified as 73-year-old Carolyn Rose, and took her to a local hospital, where she died shortly after.
Police said preliminary information suggests that Rose, for unknown reasons, walked directly into the path of the train. There is no indication of foul play at this time.
