Johnson, 76, a former state legislator and New Orleans city councilman, qualified this week as a candidate running for the District E council seat he had to resign in disgrace 13 years ago.
In his first interview on Thursday, he told WWL Louisiana he’s hoping to follow in the footsteps of the outgoing councilman, Oliver Thomas, another convicted felon who was forced to step down from the council because of corruption charges but was able to come back 14 years later to win an election in District E.
