The river Dee flows out to the Irish Sea via a wide estuary of tidal sand flats and salt marshes. Around the neap tides, much of the sand at the mouth stays dry, and when the wind gets up it can throw the sand around much like in a desert environment. This is shot from the edge of an outcrop of sandstone (sometimes known as Bird Island) that protrudes from the sand close to Red Rocks beach in Hoylake. Shot at 1 frame every 12 secs through a Canon CN-E 35mm T1.5 @ T16 with a varying exposure, Canon raw sequence. The whole shot represents about three hours of real time.
