1961: SCIENTISTS WITH A "PORPOISE": At China Lake, California, a porpoise named "Notty" goes through her paces for scientists. It's a Navy project, seeking clues to the secret of porpoise sonar, which is more accurate than man's electronic version, and of the porpoise's incredible swimming speed. "Notty's" voice is heard as she cruises round the pool, almost conversationally.
