Bordeaux wine controversy as producers reject classification French wine-makers in one of the country's most prestigious parts of Bordeaux have protested that planned new government classifications should be scrapped, in an ongoing controversy which critics say is threatening the product's image. Wines from the Saint-Emilion area are ranked by the state every 10 years, with just a handful making the top grade of "premier grand cru, class A". The 2012 listing was supposed to replace a disputed 2006 ranking that had been suspended after legal complaints -- but now dissatisfied producers say the latest version isn't up to scratch either.
