Description
Namibian farms struggle with severe drought and land redistribution uncertainty Namibia is facing the worst drought in 120 years and the agricultural industry is suffering. Along with this comes the uncertainty of a possible change in the country’s constitution to allow for forceful expropriation of white-owned commercial farms with “fair compensation”. Some commercial farmers, like Helmut Halenke, maintain that the willing buyer willing seller model remains the best option. Kornelius Hamasab, a recipient of land as part of compensation, feels conflicted about how land redistribution should be done, but he does believe the government needs to do something to reform land ownership.
