Twenty years in prison have been requested against General Gilbert Diendere, one of the army leaders in the 1987 coup and a key defendant in the trial of the alleged killers of former Burkinabe president Thomas Sankara. He is already serving a 20-year sentence for an attempted coup in 2015.
