"Doing more with less is one of the central mottos of OBS," Yiannis Exarchos, CEO of Olympic Broadcasting Services, tells AFP. For an organisation created partly "so that broadcasters would not need themselves to be bringing so many people" to the Games, sustainability is key. It also happens to be the main message of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, a theme which will no doubt carry through to Paris 2024. "We have done significant progress in containing the footprint of the Games," says Exarchos, explaining that OBS is piloting several new programmes that "leverage emerging technologies", which could help further reduce environmental impact in time for the next Olympics.
