Description
Valeriy Zukin closes the curtains at a window hit by shrapnel at the Leleka clinic, a private maternity hospital in the northern suburbs of Kyiv that has been converted into frontline aid station for wounded soldiers and civilians. Zukin's clinic, a short distance from the frontline village of Horenka, did not suffer massive destruction in the strike last week but the glass in the front door of the hospital was shattered by shrapnel, and there are two holes in the facade, including one where the post-natal recovery room was hit. Meanwhile, 43-year-old Vasyl Oksak, a local commander in Ukraine's civil rescue service, searches nearby bombed-out homes for the wounded. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
