A series of riots across Sweden sparked by plans to burn the Koran have led to dozens of arrests and injuries, and is spotlighting segregation in the Nordic country as most of the protests occured in what the police designate "vulnerable areas." For criminologist Manne Gerell, these areas are characterised by "being deprived, having high levels of poverty, high levels of people of a foreign background and by having criminal networks exerting pressure on those living in or visiting these neighbourhoods."
