Description
The government spokesperson for Rwanda holds a press conference about the arrival of the migrants from the United Kingdom. This is part of a controversial deal, signed by Rwanda and Britain, to deport illegal migrants to Kigali. The plan aims to discourage desperate migrants from attempting to cross the English Channel by flying them some 6,400 kilometres to Rwanda where they are expected to stay for good.. The spokesperson for the government insists that "there are not many solutions, people are suffering, the asylum system is broken" and that "the new arrivals will be welcomed, will be looked after, and supported to make new life here". The first flight is due to land the following morning. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
