Description
A confectionary producer based in the north of England has introduced a vegan product range in order to avoid Brexit export restrictions. The Pecan Deluxe Candy Co has faced arduous post-Brexit export inspections and paperwork, including having to hire vets to certify eggs and butter used in production, which it says cost over 100,000 pounds (115,000 euros). Switching to fully plant-based products removes many of these barriers and reduces the chances of products being returned by customs or destroyed. Non-vegan products are still available, but EU customers are made aware the shipping will be quicker and easier if they choose plant-based alternatives. "84 percent of our business here prior to Brexit was export" says Graham Kingston, Pecan Deluxe's managing director, "it's a big part of our business and we weren't just going to lie down and take it."
