Description
In the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, AFP is being escorted by an official of the National Guard of Ukraine, Andriy Kovanniy, through the former regional police headquarters which according to local police, was used as a torture chamber for captured pro-Ukrainian civilians during Russian occupation. "We have more than 300 cases of people who were held and tortured here, the investigation is still ongoing, and the number grows every day," he says. The floors are littered with personal belongings, food leftovers, and other objects. The Russian anthem, which according to Andriy, "our people were forced to learn" remains scribbled on one of the walls in the basement. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
