On the Belarusian side of the Belarus-Ukraine border, armed guards stand by piled up tyres. Barbed wire separate their zone from a no man's land and they face a Ukrainian checkpoint, some 100 meters away. There, a yellow and blue Ukrainian flag flies alongside the white-red-white flag used by the suppressed Belarusian opposition.
