Around 3,000 soldiers from the US and Philippine armies kick off annual joint exercises in the Southeast Asian country. The first phase of Salaknib, which means "shield" in a local language, will be held on the main island of Luzon from March 13 to April 4 and will include scenarios involving the defence of the Philippines territory from potential "foreign aggressors."
