Description
In Dakar, opposition politician Ousmane Sonko is sentenced to two years in prison and fined 600,000 CFA francs ($980) for 'corrupting young people'. He must also pay 20 million CFA francs ($33,000) to the plaintiff, Adji Sarr. Charges of rape and death threats were dismissed. A half-victory for El Hadji Diouf, Adji Sarr's lawyer, who says he is "satisfied" but intends to appeal the decision, believing that the verdict is not sufficient in relation to the "suffering" his client underwent.
