Description
The Yellow Ribbon movement was born in April 2022 in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, which was under Russian occupation for more than eight months. Kyiv took back the city in November of that year. Since then, the group has expanded its reach, organising acts of peaceful non-violent resistance across the occupied territories, including blaring out the Ukrainian national anthem at a bus stop in Lugansk and distributing pamphlets and posters. "Of course it's a risky activity," Ivan, one of the organisation's coordinators, who has lived in Russian-controlled territories, tells AFP in Kyiv. "But you know it's very risky to be Ukrainian in the occupied territories... Basically all Russians think that every Ukrainian, every citizen is a partisan." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
